'Girl Meets World' season 4 renewal news, rumors: Writers clear the air; finale to air Jan. 20

(YouTube/DisneyChannelUK)"Girl Meets World" season 4 still up in the air

Fans of "Girl Meets World" were sent into a roller coaster of emotions when Rider Strong seemingly confirmed via a podcast that there isn't going to be a fourth season. However, the writers of the Disney Channel show took to Twitter to try and contain the pandemonium.

Strong, who plays Shawn Hunter on the series, spoke on the Literary Disco podcast and talked about wrapping the third season. The actor reflected on his directing stint on the show, having helmed a number of episodes. But what really caused a fan frenzy was what he said next.

"We finished the third season of 'Girl Meets World.' My brother and I were directing a lot of episodes and I acted in a couple. And the show ended," said Strong.

The actor didn't elaborate on what he meant by "the show ended," but it is important to note that there are a lot of possibilities. First of all, he could be referring to the entire show ending, which would, of course, come as a stab to the heart for longtime fans of the series. But on the other hand, he could just be talking about the third season.

Thankfully, the "Girl Meets World" writers posted a tweet to address the issue, saying that Shawn, Strong's character, is "wrong a lot."

They immediately followed it up by clearing the air on the matter of a fourth season renewal and pointed out that Disney has yet to announce anything. However, they did say that the network will come to a decision soon.

There are only three episodes left in "Girl Meets World" season 3. The first episode will premiere on Jan. 6, but will not be the typical storytelling episode. Instead, it will be a fan service — offering the followers of the show a special look behind the scenes. The season 3 finale, "Girl Meets Goodbye," will air on Jan. 20.
