Google Nexus 7 2016 release date, specs: Rebranded to Pixel 7; to launch with Pixel phones on Oct. 4?

(ASUS website)Asus manufactured the current Google Nexus 7, but the rumored 2016 is believed to be manufactured by Huawei.

Google has been tight-lipped about the details of its upcoming tablet, the Nexus 7 2016. However, there have been numerous rumors about it. The most recent speculation reveals that Google may drop "Nexus" and replaced it with "Pixel."

There is a much-awaited Google event on Oct. 4 and it is expected to be the unveiling of the tech giant's newest series of phones — the Pixel and Pixel XL. The event is dubbed as the Google Pixel event because apparently the California-based company is rebranding its devices to Pixel and will discontinue using Nexus. If this turns out to be official, then it is highly likely that the upcoming Nexus 7 2016 tablet may also get a rebranding and will be called the Pixel 7.

According to reports, popular gadget tipster Even Blass revealed that Google is partnering with Huawei for the upcoming tablet and it could be a new line that is completely different from all the released Nexus 7 tablets. It may even be called "Google's Huawei-built 7-inch tablet." Apparently, the tablet will run on either Qualcomm's Snapdragon 625 or 820 processing chips. It will also be matched with a 4 GB of RAM. If the speculated specs turn out to be true, then it is likely that the device is not included in the Nexus 7 family and could be a new tablet line — the Pixel 7.

There are other speculations for its specs as well. It may include a 64 GB internal storage that can be expanded to 2 TB via microSD card. It may also come with Google's latest Android Nougat operating system fresh from the box. For its display, it is expected to sport a 2,560 x 1,440 screen resolution. The cameras may get an upgrade with a 13-megapixel rear lens and 5-megapixel front lens. Price could start at $258.

These rumors, however, must be taken with a grain of salt because neither Google nor Huawei has confirmed any of it.
