'Grand Theft Auto 6' release date announcement at Gamescom 2016?

(Facebook/grandtheftautoV)"Grand Theft Auto 5" is the predecessor of the rumored "Grand Theft Auto 6," which is believed to be announced at Gamescom 2016.

There are widespread rumors claiming that "Grand Theft Auto 6" will see a release sometime in either 2018 or 2020, but these have not yet been confirmed by Rockstar Games. However, there is talk of the company announcing details about the title at the upcoming Gamescom 2016.

Taking place in Cologne, Germany, from Aug. 17 to Aug. 21, the highly anticipated event will reportedly be attended by Rockstar Games. It could take the opportunity to announce the next installment in the "Grand Theft Auto" franchise, but there are also those who believe that "Red Dead Redemption 2" is also a likely bet. Both games have huge fan bases, so either one of the two will result in a welcoming response for sure.

Neither Rockstar nor Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar's parent company, has made any confirmations or alluded to a sixth installment being in the works. However, that has not stopped fans from speculating that the game exists. There is some belief that the company will time the release of the game along with the launch of Xbox Two and PlayStation 5.

Take-Two has previously announced that Rockstar has an unnamed title in the works. It could be "Grand Theft Auto 6" or "Red Dead Redemption 2." However, there is also the possibility of it being an entirely new title altogether.

But what will the next installment have in store for fans? According to reports, a new female protagonist — the very first, in fact — will be featured and voiced by actress Eva Mendes. As for the male protagonist, Mendes' real-life partner, Ryan Gosling, is said to fill that role.

The location of the game is also something that has been talked about for a while. Previous reports have stated that the story could take place in either London or San Diego. However, there is now wide speculation that the setting could be San Fierro or Las Venturas. There was a former rumor stating that Japan could also be a viable option, but it would be a difficult task to incorporate the country's roads into the game.

For now, everything remains a rumor. Fans will just have to wait until an official announcement is made.
