'Grand Theft Auto 6' release date, gameplay features: Delayed release due to virtual reality support?

(Facebook/grandtheftautoV)"Grand Theft Auto 5" is the latest in Rockstar Games' franchise.

Fans of the "Grand Theft Auto" franchise are anxiously awaiting news about "Grand Theft Auto 6," but Rockstar Games has kept mum on its development. Now, rumors of the game's delay have started circulating, and it may be because of the studio's desire to include virtual reality (VR) support.

It was previously reported that Rockstar Games requires a bigger budget to create "Grand Theft Auto 6." The capital for its predecessor, "Grand Theft Auto 5," was already immense, but the new features that the studio wants to add to its sequel are apparently calling for an increase in funding.

One of these features is reportedly VR support. The gaming industry is always evolving. And with the release of many VR consoles in the market, it looks like the industry is headed toward a VR-focused world. Virtual reality is going to be more present in the coming years, especially since it has been heralded as the future of gaming.

Given this, it does not come as a surprise that Rockstar Games would want to try its hand on VR by incorporating the feature into one of its hottest franchises. However, the move requires a bigger budget, which may cause a delay in the game's release. $300 million is apparently needed to make "Grand Theft Auto 6," and requesting for approval for that kind of amount is going to take some time.

There is also talk of augmented reality (AR) being pursued for the game instead of VR. Regardless, these features are definitely a step up from the usual scheme of "Grand Theft Auto," and developing them will require more time and money.

However, it doesn't seem like the delay will be anything new to fans. Rockstar Games is known for not releasing its titles on time. "Grand Theft Auto 5" and "Red Dead Redemption" are only two examples of delayed releases.

"Grand Theft Auto 6" is expected to arrive in 2020.
