'Grimm' season 6 spoilers: First teaser photo for upcoming season revealed; star David Giuntoli to direct one episode

Black Claw might have the upper hand now, but a new teaser photo for "Grimm" season 6 hints that things are just getting started as far as Nick Burkhardt is concerned.

"Grimm" season 5 ended with Adalind Schade (Claire Coffee), her daughter Diana and Nick's son Kelly at the hands of Black Claw leader Bonaparte (Shaun Toub). Even though the finale ended with Sean Renard (Sasha Roiz) running a knife through Bonaparte, it doesn't necessarily mean that Black Claw's threat has been neutralized.

A recently released teaser photo for "Grimm" season 6 certainly hints as much. The photo shows Portland's resident Grimm looking angry and determined. Half of Nick's (David Giuntoli) face is in the shadows, perhaps as a nod to reports that the next season would find the detective more volatile and a little bit unhinged as he goes after the people who took his family.

Giuntoli revealed during New Zealand's Armageddon Expo that he expects his character to be very vicious in season 6.

"I think they want to take Nick to — I don't know about superpowers — but I know they want to turn him into a fierce, aggressive, kind of unhinged character, so that will be really fun to play for me," he added.

Aside from playing a darker Nick, the actor is also taking on directorial duties this season. Giuntoli's co-star and real-life girlfriend, Bitsie Tulloch (Juliette/Eve), recently tweeted her congratulations and love to the "Grimm" star for directing episode 3 of season 6.

Her tweet also revealed that the title of Giuntoli's directorial debut is "Oh Captain, My Captain," which led to fans speculating that it might be a Renard-centric episode. Some fans are saying that Renard might possibly die in this episode. Although it's also possible that a new police captain might be introduced.

Unfortunately, fans would have to wait longer as production for the series is still ongoing. However, diehard Grimmsters can see their favorite characters during the "Grimm" panel on July 23 at this year's San Diego Comic-Con. Fans can expect to see Giuntoli, Tulloch, Coffee, Roiz, Silas Weir Mitchell (Monroe), Reggie Lee (Wu), and Bree Turner (Rosalee) answering questions about the upcoming season.

"Grimm" season 6 is expected to return to NBC this fall.
