"Guardians of the Galaxy" was one of the massive hits produced in 2014, and the much-awaited sequel, "Guardians of the Galaxy 2," was officially announced to be released in May 2017.

The announcement was made by "Guardians of the Galaxy" director James Gunn and lead star Chris Pratt (Peter Quill) in a video presentation during the San Diego Comic Con in 2014.

Gunn further confirmed this on his Facebook page, saying that the U.S release will be on May 5, 2017, while the U.K release will be on April 28, 2017.

As for the details of the "Guardians of the Galaxy" sequel, Marvel and the rest of the cast seem tight-lipped about it. However, Gunn has made a few hints here and there during some of his interviews on different occasions.

In an interview with Vulture, he was quoted saying that the main gist of the sequel will be about families. Rumors have it that "Guardians of the Galaxy 2" will focus on Quill and his father. There are speculations that Quill will look for his father and probably he is not from Earth.

In a podcast interview with Alison Rosen is Your New Bestfriend, Gunn also mentioned that the sequel will introduce a new set of characters. These characters, according to Gunn, will not only be important to the Guardians film but also to the whole Marvel Universe.

There have been reports that Sylvester Stallone will be one of those new casts as he was spotted filming with the crew since February at the "Guardians of the Galaxy 2" studio in Atlanta as well as at the Georgia International Convention Center wearing a Judge Dredd-like costume.

Aside from Stallone, the Howard the Duck character was also spotted around the studios, further confirming speculations that the character will be featured in the sequel.

"Guardians of the Galaxy 2" will bring back the original cast with Zoe Saldana portraying Gamora, and Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel lending voices to Rocket and Groot, respectively.
