The Internet has been buzzing about the possibility of a new installment of the "Half-Life" series, but it seems that the fan's premature celebration has caused some confusion regarding when it would be released or even if the company would ever revive "Half-Life."

The rumor mill started when fans of the franchise saw a new logo and a few posters of what was believed to be "Half-Life 3." In a recent report by christiantoday.com, Valve was responsible for the teaser images, but has since taken them down. However, the report also claims that if fans search for valve.software, the search engine would redirect them to a site saying "Maybe next year." The site has also taken it down as of late.

Co-founder and Managing Director, Gabe Newell, was quoted last March by IGN saying,

"The only reason we'd go back and do like a super classic kind of product is if a whole bunch of people just internally at Valve said they wanted to do it and had a reasonable explanation for why [they did]."

But reports also stated that Newell never explicitly said that there would not be any "Half-Life 3" or any future plans of it being released.

Mnrdaily.com speculates that it is more possible that "Portal," another famous Valve game, could be set in the "Half-Life" universe instead. The partnership of the two games could be a safer route for the company since "Portal" was said to have noted "Half-Life" a couple of times.

Rumors also suggested that a possible open world type of game would be incorporated if "Half-Life 3" gets released. Dayherald further reported that it is quite possible for "Half-Life" to shift into a role playing game instead of its previous first-person shooter gameplay.

There has been no official word from Valve on the status of "Half-Life 3."
