There has been very little official news about the game "Half Life 3," and this means that the Internet has been rife with rumors about delays in its development and even its cancellation. This also means that fans have been left with no good news about the game and its release date.

Reporting on the rumors about "Half Life 3," The News Independent states that two people have played a big role in the delays associated with the game. First is Marc Laidlaw leaving Valve Corporation, the developer of the game, and states that it is likely that after he left, no one has been able to take over and do his job well.

The fact that Marc Laidlaw's departure will adversely impact the game was also discussed in January of this year when his exit was announced. At that time, however, Valve did not provide any details about the status of the game or whether or not Laidlaw had finished writing it. Importantly, Laidlaw was the only writer who was involved in the first two games in the series. He also had a major role to play in Episode 1 and 2 of "Half-Life 2" but was assisted by a team of writers. It is also likely that his vision for the game was one reason why it became very popular and no other writer has managed to take over and complete his job. The question if Laidlaw managed to finish the writing for "Half Life 3" before leaving and the game's development should be announced soon.

Added to the departure of Laidlaw, the CEO of Valve, Gabe Newell, recently seems reluctant to commit to creating "Half Life 3." In his explanation, Newell said that "Half Life" is a classic game and they did not want to revisit it and create a sequel, unless there is a clear need for doing so. Meanwhile, with very little news about the game, there is a constant stream of rumors indicating that it has been canceled.
