'Half Life 3' release date in 2018? what to expect

(STEAM)'Half Life 3' is expected to come out in 2018.

Game developer Valve has not released any official announcement or any hint on the release of "Half Life 3." However, according to reports, it might come out sometime in 2018.

For the past 12 years, a lot of fans have been hoping to get their hands on the much-awaited "Half Life 3." It is one of the biggest game series that Valve has made. Valve is known for bringing out the remarkable games of this generation, which include "Counter Strike," "Portal," "Left 4 Dead," and "DoTA 2." It took six years to release the second "Half Life" ever since the first released in 1998. Since 2004, Valve has remained tight lipped about any developments happening on the third installment.

According to reports, "Half Life 3" might release in 2018. It is expected to be the biggest release and comeback in the history of video games as it is rumored to target the virtual reality technology. As VR technology rises to be the biggest gaming platform, market analysts are predicting for it to mature and become mainstream in the next two years. If "Half Life" will indeed release in 2018, then its comeback is expected to be a huge hit.

The main man behind the success of the "Half Life" games, Marc Laidlaw, already left Valve, and his exit created an enormous delay to the development of the third one. Although it is challenging for the game developer to proceed, it is interesting to see how the third game will turn out.

In a Game Slice podcast last year, Valve CEO Gabe Newell explained the progress of the "Half Life" games. He said, "The only reason we'd go back and do like a super classic kind of product is if a whole bunch of people just internally at Valve said they wanted to do it and had a reasonable explanation for why. But you know if you want to do another Half-Life game and you want to ignore everything we've learned in shipping Portal 2 and in shipping all the updates on the multiplayer side, that seems like a bad choice."

Fans will just have to wait until 2018.
