Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) and the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) are pumped and ready to take on terrorists who will dare cause chaos on American soil in "Homeland" season 6.

After shooting overseas for the past installments, the new season of the Showtime series is set to conquer the United States by storm, as the action and drama returns to the home front. Carrie, Saul Berenson (Mandy Patinkin) and the entire gang in the agency will have to face a new batch of enemies. This time though, they will have the advantage of fighting in a place they know by heart. According to Showtime CEO David Nevins, it is time to bring the cast back to the United States and focus on domestic-type of plotlines for a change.

Last season, the series had to shoot exclusively in Berlin, Germany. Prior to that, Carrie and the CIA worked cases in different parts of the world, like Afghanistan, Pakistan, Europe and South Africa. This time around, the award-winning series will be presenting American stories. Nevins revealed, during the Television Critics Association's press tour in January (as per Entertainment Weekly), that the show's creative team was already preparing for all-new plots.

Meanwhile, it will be interesting to see how Carrie and Saul will bury their past quarrel and focus on the new job at hand. It was he who accused Carrie of treason for working in a Berlin-based security firm. Saul also let double agent Allison Carr (Miranda Otto) control him, until the final revelation that she was actually a mole working for Ivan Krupin (Mark Ivanir). Saul was sorry that he ever doubted Carrie's allegiance. Patinkin told People's Choice in February his hopes that the series would continue to be an eye-opener for the viewers regarding issues in and around the US.

"Oh my goodness! I hope the show goes somewhere that makes a profound statement about something broken in this world that in our fictional viewpoint, we might have a suggestion on how to set it right," the actor shared.

"Homeland" season 6 is expected to return this fall on Showtime.
