'Homeland' season 6 premiere spoilers: Carrie to receive a marriage proposal?

(Facebook/HomelandonShowtime)Is marriage part of Carrie's future in "Homeland" season 6?

Carrie Mathison (Clare Danes) is rumored to be getting married in the upcoming season of "Homeland." Her groom, however, is supposedly not Quinn (Rupert Friend).

Last installment, viewers witnessed how complicated Carrie's love life was when she started having doubts about Quinn's loyalty to her. She thought he was the one who wanted her dead. It turned out Quinn was her protector and was doing his best to keep her alive.

When Carrie left the CIA, her mentor Saul (Mandy Patinkin) cut ties with her. She then joined a private security company. While she was in Germany, Saul had her watched by CIA Berlin head Allison (Miranda Otto). It was too late when he realized that Allison was the mole who was sent by the Russians to get intel from the United States. It was actually Allison who plotted against Carrie, and although Saul tried to salvage the situation, it was too late.

During the times Carrie was alone, her boss Otto During (Sebastian Koch) was there for her. Not long after, he asked her to marry him. Rumors claim that Carrie will be accepting his offer in season 6. She could have said yes before, but by then, Quinn was captured by jihadists and tortured until he was dying. Through a letter, he let Carrie know how much he loves her. She stayed by his side the whole time he was in the hospital. It was touch and go most of the time. The last scene even suggested that Quinn died from his injuries. There have been hints though that he will survive the ordeal. If he does, whom will she choose between him and Otto?

Meanwhile, the new installment will revolve around the unrest that will happen during the U.S. presidential elections. It has been teased that the Americans will be electing a woman leader. Actress Elizabeth Marvel will be playing Elizabeth Keane, the next POTUS. Showrunner Alex Gansa previously hinted that the new storyline would focus on the pivotal moment a new president has been chosen to lead the most powerful country of the free world.

"There is this strange period in America where there are 72 days when it's not exactly clear who's in charge, and there is a new president that needs to be educated on what it means to be president. That is a very complex transfer of power filled with all kinds of anxiety and different competing interests — How do I get the ear of the new president? How does the new president elect deal with the president that's going out? — and it's a dangerous time in our democracy," the EP shared.

"Homeland" season 6 airs in January on Showtime.
