'Homeland' season 6 spoilers: Carrie's backstory

(Facebook/HomelandonShowtime)Carrie's backstory will be revealed in "Homeland" season 6.

Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) and how she came to work in the hallowed halls of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) will be discussed in the sixth season of the hit series "Homeland."

When Peter Quinn's (Rupert Friend) backstory was revealed during the season 5 finale, the fans' reactions have been more than positive. Seeing the agent as a young man prior to his recruitment was a refreshing addition to an otherwise stressful scene. Quinn was fighting for his life in the hospital, where he was being treated for exposure to sarin gas. His condition was touch and go due to the massive blood hemorrhage he had.

In a January interview, according to Los Angeles Times, executive producer Alex Gansa shared that showing Carrie's own backstory would be an interesting storyline for season 6. He acknowledged that they have yet to dramatize how the main character was like when she was still in college before Saul Berenson (Mandy Patinkin) took an interest in her brilliance. The showrunner shared that they would most likely show her as an intelligent co-ed who impressed her professors.

"Clearly she came to the attention of Saul Berenson probably through a professor at some university who picked her out as somebody who was incredibly perceptive and acute about human behavior ... somebody who could thrive in the duplicitous role of intelligence work overseas. Somebody recognized these gifts and alerted Saul for this fact and she was recruited by him," Gansa said.

Meanwhile, Showtime President David Nevins revealed at the Television Critics Association (TCA) press tour in January that season 6 would be set in the US, particularly in the New York area. He also shared that the creative team is already brainstorming about a domestic story wherein Carrie and the CIA would be able to use their expertise best.

"Homeland" season 6 is scheduled to air in September on Showtime.
