During the People's Choice Awards last month, Mandy Patinkin (who plays Saul Berenson in the show) shared his hopes and expectations for the future of "Homeland." He wishes for it to continuously show the issues that are happening in the real world.

"I hope it goes somewhere that makes a profound statement about something broken in this world that in our fictional viewpoint, we might have a suggestion on how to set it right," Patinkin said.

As for what is in store for the sixth season of the show, Showtime president David Nevins revealed at the Television Critics Association press tour last January that "Homeland" will be set mainly in New York, but not throughout the entire season.

With season 5 telling the story entirely from Berlin, Germany, according to Entertainment Weekly, Nevins said, "I think the actors will be happy to be back in the U.S. For a year, I don't think it's necessarily going to stay there forever, but there was a strong interest in doing a domestic story from the creative team."

Nevins also answered the question on whether the show would tackle the topic of Donald Trump or Muslim immigration. He said that even though the writers don't tend to tell stories about real people, the themes of the story are drawn or are inspired from real accounts.

With the growing curiosity of Peter Quinn's (Rupert Friend) life and death situation, Showtime programming president Gary Levine said, "Quinn is severely damaged."

Levine added that if Quinn will indeed live, it will not be in a form that he has previously lived. So, there is a possibility that Friend's character will return to the show but in a different way.
