"Homeland" ended its fifth season with one of the series' highest number of viewers, as people tuned in to find out the fate of fan-favourite Peter Quinn. But the way the finale treated the character's fate has enraged fans, with most hoping for a clear resolution in the show's sixth season.

The season 5 finale, "A False Glimmer," ended with Carrie (Claire Danes) entering the room days after Quinn (Rupert Friend) doesn't show any signs of recovery. She barricaded the door, removed Quinn's pulse monitor and placed it on her finger. The episode ended with a flash of light from the window, something that was seen earlier by Carrie when she was praying in the chapel. Fans have assumed that this meant that Carrie had pulled the plug on Quinn's life support, something that didn't sit well with most of them.

Design & Trend listed down several reasons why the popular character's "death" enraged viewers. As the site enumerated, Quinn has already been put through several near-death situations that fans feel that they're being toyed with. There's also the fact that his death wasted his storyline this season and will affect the show as it moves forward to a sixth season.

While some are angry that the character appears to have been killed off, some still believe that Quinn is still alive and will return in "Homeland" season 6. After all, Friend's portrayal of the world weary CIA hitman has been perfect. It has also been argued that it made no sense for Carrie to pull the plug on Quinn when she had expended a lot of energy trying to save him in season 5.

Aside from revealing Quinn's fate, fans are expecting that season 6 will also answer some of the questions raised by the finale, like Otto During's (Sebastian Koch) proposal to Carrie and Saul's (Mandy Patinkin) job offer.

"Homeland" season 6 is expected to be aired sometime in 2016.
