'House of Cards' season 4 spoilers: Doug Stamper won't be killed off, show creator assures fans

(Netflix)

"House of Cards" is not as bad as "Game of Thrones" but the show admittedly has a reputation for not having any qualms about killing off major characters which is why fans are worried that season four might bring about the demise of fan favorite, Doug Stamper.

Michael Kelly, who has been doing an admirable job portraying Frank Underwood's (Kevin Spacey) confidant, admits that being the right hand man might give him a little protection but circumstances can still change. The not so subtle hint only added to fans concerns but show creator, Beau Willimon, has assured that Doug will not be killed off next season. He even told the actor that, "I'm not getting rid of you."

It would be a shame if "House of Cards" does kill off Stamper as the character's personal and professional struggles added greatly to the show's compelling storyline. It was also one of the actor's more memorable and challenging performances as his character vacillated between being good and bad.

Kelly himself admitted that the role certainly put him through his acting paces.

"I basically was playing a different character at times," the actor revealed. "I've never been so scared to take something on. I've never been so filled with doubt."

Aside from Stamper's fate, fans are also concerned about the show's resident power couple, now that Claire Underwood (Robin Wright) has left her husband. Willimon admits that it is actually "one of the big questions going into season 4" especially since the show draws strength from that partnership as well.

But since "House of Cards" writers have already laid the foundation for an impending conflict between the couple, "the more inevitable it became."

But Frank and Claire are reportedly not just going to go head to head against each other; a new power couple is reportedly headed to Washington and one that might pose a big threat to the Underwoods.

However, fans will have to wait until 2016 before they can unravel the political and personal pitfalls of "House of Cards" season four.
