'House of Cards' season 4 rumor: Frank Underwood to get assassinated like Francis Urquhart from the original UK series?

(Netflix)

"House of Cards" is perhaps Netflix's most popular original series, proving that Internet streaming-only programs may also do well with viewers, critics, and even award-giving bodies. The success is largely in part of Kevin Spacey's performance as Frank Underwood, which earned him two Emmys and a Golden Globe for Best Actor. If the show kills off his character then, will the show still survive.

The buzz does have its basis, too. Netflix's "House of Cards" is heavily based on the UK show of the same title. In that series, Francis Urquhart, Frank Underwood's counterpart, was assassinated during the series finale (after three seasons) to save his reputation. With things falling apart for Frank by the end of season three, many speculate that his end may also be near.

In the finale of season three, Claire (Robin Wright) walked out on Frank, finally breaking their strong political bond. What makes that ending more surprising is the prospect that Claire might run against him in the coming Presidential elections. If this pushes through, then Frank will either plot to get rid (perhaps permanently) of Claire; unless Claire beats him to it, which furthered the "Frank's death" theory.

But then again, this is not the only direction that season four can explore. In a recent report, it says that with the impending rise of Remy Danton (Mahershala Ali) and Jackie Sharp (Molly Parker) to power, the ex-married couple might be forced to get back together and work to topple the newer, younger couple.

"House of Cards" season four has no release date yet but recent rumours have pegged it for March 2016. Stay tuned for the latest news.
