The "How To Train Your Dragon" franchise is one of the most beloved animated movie franchises to have been released because it was able to tell an honest and heartwarming story that resonated well with the audience.

The much-anticipated third installment in the franchise will serve as the culmination of Hiccup's coming of age story.

The film was initially slated for a 2016 release date, however, it was pushed back due to production delays. While the film isn't expected to premiere until 2018, thankfully, writer and director, Dean DeBlois, has provided some hints regarding the upcoming movie.

In "How To Train Your Dragon 3," Hiccup and Toothless may find themselves on opposing sides. DeBlois revealed that in the third installment will be a "dueling story" and that Hiccup and Toothless, who have since become the chiefs of their respective tribes, will try to do whatever is best for their tribe.

While DeBlois didn't reveal the main conflict of the movie, it is likely that Drago will be involved somehow. "You have to wait until the third film to actually see where Drago's character goes. He's a lot more complex than he's presented in this second installment," DeBlois said.

According to MoviePilot, based on the events from Cressida Cowell's novels, there will an all out war erupting between humans and dragons. It is possible that Drago may be responsible for the escalating conflict between the humans and the dragons. It is possible that the war will also contribute to the mass extinction of the dragons.

DeBlois has confirmed that the movie will tackle the beginning of Cowell's book where Hiccup, as an adult, is reflecting back on the time where dragons roamed freely. "How To Train Your Dragon 3" will be delving into how the dragons disappeared and whether they would be able to come back.

"How To Train Your Dragon 3" is scheduled to be released to theaters on June 29, 2018.
