Vampire couple Ian Somerhalder and Nikki Reed celebrated their first wedding anniversary on Apr. 26. The two got married in Topanga Canyon, California last year after dating for less than a year.

Somerhalder plays Damon Salvatore, one of the lead characters in the long-running series "The Vampire Diaries." Reed, on the other hand, played Rosalie Hale in the movie series "Twilight." The two survived a lot of breakup rumors since they started dating in mid-2014.

Their engagement was announced February 2015 and was met with a lot of skepticism. A year after they tied the knot, however, the couple appear as in love as ever.

Somerhalder recently posted a picture of himself and his wife in celebration of Earth Day. The photo's caption says that they are in the middle of North Atlantic Ocean in a yellow submarine while shooting for "Years of Living" season 2.

One of the things the couple have in common is their passion for animal protection and welfare, which they are both active with. In an interview with US Weekly the actor shared, "My goal and Nikki's goal in life is literally — my goal in particular — is to build four profit entities that will literally feed our necessary non-prof initiatives till the end of time." He added, "We definitely share that passion together in a very huge way."

The couple may also be planning to contribute to life literally soon as Reed revealed that having a family is already in their plans. E! News caught up with the actress during the Kiehl's Earth Day event where she was asked about having children and she said, "I'm sure that's in the cards."

Somerhalder has announced that he's leaving "The Vampire Diaries" and many are speculating that the actor's decision is brought about by his plans to concentrate on raising a family.
