An exclusive Apple event happening today, Oct. 27, is expected to showcase the newest iterations of the Mac computers. Although gadget enthusiasts are waiting for the newest laptops, a lot are more curious on the iMac especially that Microsoft just launched its all-in-one desktop, the Surface Studio.

According to reports, the today's event will probably see Apple's upgrade for the desktop computer, iMac. It can be noted that the tech giant updated the iMac last year. Although there are high hopes that the desktop computer will make an appearance in the event, there are speculations that the computers are not yet ready to be shipped. It may be announced separately sometime in the first half of 2017.

If Apple decides to release the new iMac, its announcement is very timely since rival Microsoft just recently launched its first all-in-one desktop called Surface Studio.

According to reports, the Surface Studio is sold with a very thin LCD computer monitor and the accessories — keyboard and mouse — are sold separately. Its target consumers are the artists and designers. Not only is its target market is similar to that of the iMac, its design is also reminiscent of the Apple desktop. However, the Microsoft Surface Studio boasts an 18-inch touchscreen monitor with a resolution of more than that of a 4K screen.

The upcoming Apple iMac, on the other hand, is speculated to have specs such as the Intel Kaby Lake processing chipset. It will also sport a 27-inch 5K display, 32 GB of RAM with 2 TB of hard disk. As for the GPU, it could get another one from AMD or Polaris. It is even possible that the virtual reality (VR) technology will be integrated in the upcoming iMac. As for its price, it could go over $3,000, which is near the price tag of the Surface Studio.

More details on the iMac may be announced in Apple's event today.
