iMac 2016 release date, specs rumors: New Mac desktop to launch in October?

(Apple)The current-generation 21.5- and 27-inch iMac with Retina.

New Macs are coming after the launch of the next-generation iPhone in September. Among these is the iMac 2016 which might arrive as early as October and could carry some new graphics chips.

This comes from a report by Bloomberg, which cited sources familiar with Apple's plans. According to these sources, a refreshed iMac 2016 along with an updated MacBook Air and MacBook Pro are in the pipelines. Consumers may even see some of the new Macs as early as October, but it is unknown if the new iMac is one of the first to arrive.

The report from Mac World corroborates the October launch date. According to the article, Apple updated their iMac at the same month last year, so it is highly likely that the Cupertino-based company will once again choose that month for the next version's launch.

The iMac 2016 is expected to be faster with an option for new chips from Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. Aside from that, no other detail about the new desktop was disclosed, so it is still unknown if there are more upgrades that can be expected.

It seems that the tech giant is focusing more on the MacBook Pro 2016, which two of the sources say has a Dynamic Function Row feature. This will introduce a virtual row, which will display controls depending on the program that the laptop is currently using.

When on the desktop, the row will show standard controls such as for brightness and media. When using Safari, there will be controls for finding and defining words. This feature can be used on the Mac OS X Sierra, which will roll out by the end of September. A refreshed MacBook Air with a multi-functional USB Type-C port is also part of Apple's plans.

Fans can stay tuned to the unveiling of the iMac 2016 possibly this October.
