'Iron Man 4' release rumors: Movie sequel to arrive in 2020; to feature Ty Simpkins as the new iron-clad superhero

(Marvel)Rumors claim that "Iron Man 4" may arrive in 2020. Will it still feature Robert Downey Jr. as the iron-clad superhero?

With Robert Downey Jr. and Marvel Studios keeping mum on the status of "Iron Man 4," rumors are claiming that the fourth installment of the blockbuster movie may not arrive earlier than 2020.

There is no denying that "Iron Man 4" is one of the most-clamored-for movies from Marvel fans. After all, the movie raked in billions of dollars for the studio. Despite the clamor of the fans, though, it seems that the movie is unlikely to arrive in the near future, and, if it does, the earliest would be 2020.

According to the latest reports, based on Marvel's phase 3 of its Marvel Cinematic Universe, "Iron Man 4" is not included in the lineup of scheduled Marvel movies. While it's true that Downey Jr.'s Iron Man/Tony Stark character is expected to appear in Tom Holland's "Spider-Man: Homecoming" and "Avengers: Infinity War," which are slated for June 2017 and May 2018 releases, respectively, there is no "Iron Man 4" movie in sight.

In fact, in an interview earlier this year, Downey Jr. himself said that the then-upcoming "Captain America: Civil War" was already a sort of "Iron Man 4" for him and that he believes that the clamored-for sequel to his "Iron Movie" is not included in the plans of Marvel.

"In a way it's Cap 3 but for me it's like my little Iron Man 4 and then it's back to the thing we all recognize," Downey told USA Today back in March.

In the event that Marvel is, indeed, releasing "Iron Man 4" in 2020, fans can only wonder if Downey will still breathe life to the iron-clad superhero. After all, apart from Downey's age, there were also talks before saying that Marvel is just waiting for Ty Simpkins, who played Harley (Tony Stark's sidekick) in "Iron Man 3" to grow up and pass the baton of Iron Man to the young actor.

Reportedly, as the then-child actor is only 15 years old, Marvel is waiting for him to mature and become eligible to be the next Iron Man to be mentored by Tony Stark.

Will there be an "Iron Man 4?" Is it really coming in 2020? Will it still feature Downey Jr.? Will Simpkins be the new iron-clad superhero?

Fans can only wonder at this point in time.
