Fox's "The Last Man on Earth" started on a slow note and started building momentum before culminating in an optimistic twist of a cliffhanger. Unlike most post-apocalypse shows that end with shots of someone dying, being abducted or a host of sundry depressing situations, "The Last Man on Earth's" finale showed Phil (Will Forte) and Carol (Kristen Schaal) off to start a new life. The camera then slowly panned to a shot of Jason Sudeikis in outer space, hinting at another survivor somewhere out there.

The 39-year-old Sudeikis recently dropped by "Late Night with Seth Meyers" and talked about the show's upcoming season and his character. According to the "Saturday Night Live" alum, he plays Mike, Phil's astronaut brother who was stranded in space while a deadly virus wiped out humankind. He added that he will play a big role in the second season of "The Last Man on Earth." However, that was all the comedian could say as he admitted that he doesn't really know what will happen to the astronaut.

"I'm definitely coming back next season, I'm definitely in space because I had to wear a very uncomfortable harness," Sudeikis joked.

He also talked about how it was like working with Will Forte and said that he's better off not knowing what's coming and just trust in Forte, who's also one of the executive producers of the show.  Sudeikis and Meyers also reminisced about collaborating with Forte on "Saturday Night Live" and how he was so OCD when it comes to writing.

A trailer for the second season of "The Last Man on Earth" shows Phil and his ex-wife/ girlfriend, Carol, setting up house in the White House. A shot of Phil engaged in his favorite sport proves that nothing much has changed for the self-appointed President of the United States. There's also a scene of the couple in Carol's old apartment and the two of them kissing.

Fans who want to know when Mike will return to Earth would have to catch "The Last Man on Earth" when it returns to Fox on Sept. 27.
