'Jessica Jones' season 2 release date, spoilers: Jessica and Trish romance possible? Will Simpson, Jigsaw could be next season's villains

(Facebook/Jessica Jones)"Jessica Jones" season 2 is expected to introduce more villains.

"Jessica Jones" season 2 may not be releasing this year and fans may have to wait longer for its return, but there are already spoilers that should give fans hints as to what the show's next season will bring.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Melissa Rosenberg was asked to discuss a little bit about the possible themes that should be highlighted next season. Rosenberg revealed that she is interested in delving deeper into the relationship between Trish (Rachael Taylor) and Jessica (Krysten Ritter), which she described as "the core relationship in the piece."

In the previous season, viewers saw how this relationship evolved. It started with the two being the best of friends then becoming estranged, and then back to being there for each other. Essentially, these characters have each other's back and they're more like sisters, actually. However, Rosenberg hinted that it could be possible that there might be a romantic connection between the two, especially with fans hoping for it to happen.

When asked about the possibility of a Jessica-Trish romance, Rosenberg answered in part, "Honestly, I love that people are seeing that. I'm fine with that. It's not what interests me about their relationship. To me, it's about their history, and their trust and connection.

Meanwhile, the showrunner also teased about the upcoming villains, saying that Jessica might deal with more of them instead of one. David Tennant, who played the main antagonist Kilgrave in season 1, did a superb job portraying his role and it's hard to top that, Rosenberg admitted. With Jessica's most popular nemesis gone, there are now speculations about characters from the comics who might just end up featured in the Netflix version.

It is speculated that Will Simpson (Wil Traval), considered as Netflix's version of Nuke, could return and become one of the people who'll give Jessica a hard time. International Business Times also wrote in a report that comic book character Jigsaw might just be one of Jessica's enemies in season 2. Given that the story will be more interwoven after Netflix releases "The Defenders," Jigsaw could possibly appear in "Jessica Jones."
