'Jurassic World 2' news: Colin Trevorrow talks about creating the sequel

(Facebook/Jurassic World)Steven Spielberg has been working on the "Jurassic World" franchise for 12 years, writer and producer Colin Trevorrow revealed.

The upcoming "Jurassic World 2" is one of the most-anticipated movies of 2018, but little is known about the sequel. In one of those rare moments, writer and producer Colin Trevorrow talks about the franchise, the new director J.A. Bayona, and the direction the movie is going.

It should be noted that Trevorrow was the director of the first movie and, during a guesting on Jurassic Outpost podcast, he said, "It will be more suspenseful and scary. It's just the way it's designed; it's the way the story plays out. I knew I wanted Bayona to direct it long before anyone ever heard that was a possibility, so the whole thing was just built around his skillset."

He also revealed that creator Steven Spielberg has been working on the movie franchise idea for 12 years, but Spielberg is open to entertaining ideas from him as well as to where the story goes. Trevorrow also revealed that after the "Jurassic Park" movie series, "Jurassic World" served as the restart engine and the upcoming "Jurassic World 2" has to prove "it has a reason to exist."

There have been speculations that the movie will take place in the streets of London and, after months of circulating in the rumor mill, Trevorrow clarified that the movie does not take place in the United Kingdom; rather, they are filming in London, which could be where rumors have come from.

He also addressed rumors suggesting dinosaurs will be used by the military. He said, "I'm not that interested in militarized dinosaurs, at least not in practice. I liked it in theory as the pipe dream of a lunatic (Hoskins)." He also admitted that the idea was indeed presented to him and "it was something that the character that ended up being Owen was for, that he supported, something that he was actively doing even at the beginning."

Meanwhile, Bayona, who was also present during the interview, said, "There are things you really don't expect and it is very exciting."

"Jurassic World 2" is expected to premiere on June 22, 2018.
