'Jurassic World 2' premiere date, spoilers: 'Darker and scarier' sequel to serve as 'parable of animals'

(Facebook/JurassicPark)"Jurassic World 2" will hit theaters on June 22, 2018.

Ever since the immense success, both critical and commercial, of "Jurassic World," fans have had high standards for the film's upcoming sequel. And as director Juan Antonio Bayona puts it, "Jurassic World 2" will be "darker and scarier" than its predecessor.

According to reports, Bayona spoke to Spanish Noticias RCN about the upcoming film. "Obviously when you have Chris Pratt it will also be very funny. But it will be darker. It is a second step in a trilogy, and the second step is always dark as in 'The Empire Strikes Back' or the 'Wrath of Khan' which are the examples you always get," he said.

Bayona continued to say that the film surprised even him when it comes to the story. They will be pushing boundaries, and the plot of the sequel will be something fans have not seen before in the franchise. Of course, that does not mean that "Jurassic World 2" will not be paying a few homages to the original trilogy. However, Bayona notes that they "will take it a step further."

"There are things that will happen that people are not expecting and they really are shocking," the director previewed.

Bayona's words seem to echo those of producer Colin Trevorrow's, who incidentally was the director of the first "Jurassic World" film. According to reports, Trevorrow shared a few plot details of its sequel while he was at the Sitges Film Festival in Spain. He said that the upcoming film will serve as a "parable of the treatment animals receive today," citing the kind of abuse and unethical experimentation that they are subjected to. It will even tackle having them as domesticated pets or locking them up in zoos for people to gawk at.

Finally, Trevorrow reinforced the idea of using these dinosaurs as weapons. As previously reported, it is believed that the sequel will depict what Vic Hoskins (Vincent D'Onofrio) had always wanted: weaponized and militarized dinosaurs. It can be recalled that Vic perished in the first film, but there are many others, including Dr. Henry Wu (B.D. Wong), who are capable of executing his plan.

"Jurassic World 2" will hit theaters on June 22, 2018.
