'Jurassic World 2' spoilers, cast news: Daniella Pineda joins cast as unnamed female lead

(Facebook/JurassicWorld)"Jurassic World 2" will premiere on June 22, 2018.

"Jurassic World 2" has added a number of new cast members to its roster. Most recently, it was revealed that Daniella Pineda, known for her work on TBS' "The Detour," has been cast in a leading role.

According to Variety, Pineda will join Bryce Dallas Howard, who played the female lead Claire Dearing in the first film. Howard is set to reprise her role for the sequel, along with Chris Pratt, who plays the male lead Owen Grady. It is unknown whom Pineda will play, as character details have not been divulged.

Apart from Pineda, "The Get Down" star Justice Smith was cast as a young scientist, according to an earlier report by Variety. Rafe Spall and Toby Jones have also signed on for "Jurassic World 2."

Plot details about the upcoming dinosaur sequel are scarce, but it has been said that it will take a sizable amount of time after the first film. Executive producer Colin Trevorrow, who helmed "Jurassic World," previously revealed that the sequel will not be set in the theme park. The idea has been exhausted one too many times, and viewers are undoubtedly looking for something fresh.

It has been said that weaponized dinosaurs may be integral to the film, as was suggested by the first movie's villain, Vincent D'Onofrio's Vic Hoskins. Whatever the plot will be like, it will definitely be something new. This much was revealed by Howard when she spoke of the story.

"I was kind of surprised when he pitched me the story because it leads the story to a place that we've never seen before and it brings some of the most important elements from the other films and makes something with them. I thought that was very interesting," she said. "It's the second chapter of a trilogy so it gets the story to a place that wants you leaving more and more."

Fans will have to wait a long time, though, before finding out what lies ahead for the characters. "Jurassic World 2" is not scheduled to bow until June 22, 2018.
