'Justice League' plot rumors: Aquaman to be a villain in the movie

Despite the mixed reviews generated by "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," there is no denying that many DC fans are still looking forward to the bigger movie that will bring back the triumvirate of Batman (Ben Affleck), Superman (Henry Cavill), and Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), the Justice League. While the movie is still more than a year away from hitting the theaters, there are various speculations on how it will pan out, and one rumor that increases the fans' excitement over it is that Aquaman (Jason Momoa) will be a villain early in the movie.

According to Heroic Insider, in the first part of the movie, Batman and Wonder Woman find their way down into the sea, but will come in conflict with Aquaman. Apart from being unwelcoming to the presence of the two DC superheroes, the conflict will even escalate as the Amazonians (to which Wonder Woman belongs) and the Atlanteans (Aquaman and his underwater people) have more than a thousand years of animosity.

While it is easy to assume that the conflict will not last the entire duration of the movie as avid fans know too well that Aquaman is a member of the Justice League, it won't be the case, according to Movie Pilot. The movie-related online publication said that there is a possibility for the entire movie to feature Aquaman and his Atlantean army to battle not only Wonder Woman but the other members of the Justice League, namely Batman, Superman, The Flash (Ezra Miller), and Cyborg (Ray Fisher). If this is the case, then, Aquaman will, indeed, be the villain of "Justice League" part 1.

However, it has just been confirmed that the upcoming DC movie will feature Steppenwolf as its main villain, and the story will involve an alien technology called Mother Boxes. According to Collider, DC film producer Deborah Snyder said that the movie will have a sci-fi element as influenced by comic book writer Jack Kirby.

"You know, Kirby's crazy in a great way, and there's a lot of influence, you know, kind of the New Gods stuff, and we were digging on that — and that's the Mother Boxes and that sort of Apokoliptian world and all that stuff," revealed Snyder.

With this confirmation on who the main villain in the movie will be, fans can only wonder how Aquaman's antagonistic side will be woven into the story, if ever the aforementioned rumor holds true.

"Justice League" is slated for a Nov. 17, 2017 showing date.
