For years, fans of rappers Kendrick Lamar and J.Cole have constantly begged for a collaborative album. Recently, there have been rumors that a collaborative album is in the works. However, the details about this alleged album are sparse.

Earlier this year, Co-President of Top Dawg Entertainment Dave "Miyatola" Free was asked by MTV about the collaborative album. Free did say that a Lamar and Cole collaborative album is possible, but it will take "a lot of time and energy." Free also said that both artists have a lot going on and that individually, both have a ton of work to do.

Fans have been waiting month after month for an announcement of the collaborative album, but nothing has been confirmed ever since. Many blame both rappers' schedules. However, instead of saying that Lamar and Cole's workload is preventing them from creating music for this album, fans believe that both rappers are working on this album, but are only facing delays because of their individual projects.

In a RapRadar Podcast, Cole's manager Ibrahim "Ib" Hamad said that a collaborative album is in the works, but much has to be done to make the album ready for the market.

In Free's interview, he stressed that writing songs isn't as easy as most people think it is. He emphasized that timing is everything when it comes to writing music or dropping an album. He says that sometimes the right time is not when the fans want the album, but when they need it.

But recently, TDE's Founder and Chief Executive Officer Anthony "Top Dawg" Tiffith tweeted, "09.02.16 #TDE." Could this mean that it's finally the right time? Could this be the release date of the collaborative album? Many seem to think so.

There has been no official confirmation about the collaborative album. Hopefully, the rappers will drop the album Beyoncé-style, to surprise everyone and to get everyone pumped up.
