'Kingdom Hearts 3' release date update: Co-director Tai Yasue explains reason for lack of updates

(Facebook/KingdomHearts)"Kingdom Hearts 3" does not have a specified release date yet.

Fans of the "Kingdom Hearts" franchise have been waiting for an update on the latest iteration of the game. And people expected an announcement at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) last June. However, E3 has come and gone, and nothing was revealed.

"Kingdom Hearts 3" co-director Tai Yasue recently spoke to Venture Beat about the upcoming game and why updates about its development are scarce. Yasue is also co-director of "Kingdom Hearts 2.8."

"It was a difficult decision for us. We want to share as much as possible. We're excited about 'Kingdom Hearts III.' But 'II.8' we're releasing globally at the beginning of December. We wanted to concentrate on that first. We want what's best for the moment. We're currently making 'III' and '2.8' at the same time, but we wanted to concentrate on '2.8' right now," explained Yasue.

It is definitely understandable that they focus all their efforts on "Kingdom Hearts 2.8" at this point, especially since it will be released soon. However, many fans are becoming antsy and can barely wait for the upcoming game. "Kingdom Hearts 3" has been confirmed, after all, to be the last in the franchise.

And with such a massive fan following and with the success of the previous titles, it certainly comes as no surprise that a lot of pressure is being put into the developer of the game, Square Enix.

When asked which Disney characters will be making an appearance in the new game, Yasue did not give out any details. He did, however, say that there is a time for everything and that the announcement will be made when the time is right.

As for how "Kingdom Hearts 3" will wrap everything up story-wise, Yasue also revealed that everything will be tied together. They are currently telling the story of the Dark Seeker saga and an impending battle will ensue between Xehanort's group and other Keyblade masters. But Yasue ultimately revealed that "everything is going to come together at the conclusion of the Dark Seeker saga in part III."

No specific release date has been announced for "Kingdom Hearts 3."
