In the upcoming season of "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (SVU)," the vice president of the United States, Joe Biden, will make a cameo appearance.

According to reports the SVU team that is being led by Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) will work together with the vice president during the next season. Biden's reason for joining the project is because of his advocacy regarding sexual violence against women and he is hoping that his appearance on the series will make people more aware about the issue.

The episode which features Biden will tackle the issue regarding the unsolved cases of rape victims. It will also center on the issue that the violence against women should end.

Biden will also portray himself in the upcoming episode. His appearance in the show will take place in a press conference scene where in that particular moment, the vice president will give honor to Benson for her efforts in continually eradicating the backlogs of untested rape kits.

Hargitay also supported the idea of the episode that will come in the 18th season. Moreover, the actress is also known to be a supporter of ending violence against women. Recently, she also attended an important event called the United States of Women Summit back in June. During the said event, she was able to voice out her concerns that testing rape kits can play a big role in ending sexual violence.

On the other hand, there are speculations that the professional relationship between Benson and Captain Ed Tucker (Robert John Burke) will go to another level. There is a possibility that something romantic may bloom within their relationship. A lot of fans have already been pairing up the two characters for a long time. Even though there was not any romantic development from the previous seasons, the next installment may explore this idea.

Season 18 of "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" will premiere on September 21 on NBC.
