'Law & Order: SVU' season 18 episode 7 spoilers: When will Benson and the squad return?

(Facebook/lawandordersvu)Benson and the squad will take on another sensitive case in the next episode of "Law and Order: SVU."

Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and her team will return in January after "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit's" brief hiatus.

Fans of the long-running NBC series will have a long wait ahead of them before they can see new episodes. The next one is slated to air on Jan. 4, 2017 with the title "Great Expectations." As per the synopsis released, the SVU team will take on another interesting case involving a young hockey team. The members will be embroiled in a messy investigation regarding their hazing ritual. It looks like a newcomer to their group will cry foul, prompting his parents to report to the police about the situation.

Meanwhile, another episode to look forward to is titled "Unstoppable" featuring Gary Cole. As per the promo released, he will play a Donald Trump-inspired character. The businessman-politician is campaigning for office when he becomes involved in a scandal. Women are coming out to accuse him of sexual assault. The episode will allegedly draw parallel scenarios with Trump rumors heard during the United States presidential elections.

In the teaser, Cole's character maintains his innocence amidst all the allegations against him. When the SVU gets involved in the probe, he tells Benson it is natural for women to fall in love with him because of his looks and money. The media is also shown having a field day with the juicy scandal. Cole seems confident that the cases against him will be dropped. Nothing will stop him from earning the people's votes, even if some scorned women continue to claim they were sexually abused.

Both episodes were supposed to air in November, but NBC chose to make last minute changes with the lineups. At the moment, "Unstoppable" has no schedule yet. NBC previously promised the fans it would air after the elections.

Meanwhile, "Great Expectations" will air on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2017 at 9 p.m. EST on NBC.
