Earlier this year, The Wall Street Journal reported that Netflix and Nintendo currently are in the early stages of a 'Legend of Zelda' television adaptation. The report has sent long-time Zelda fans into a craze of anticipation, already theorizing on what is in store for them in the debut of the upcoming series. Unfortunately for them, Nintendo CEO, was quick to debunk the article published by the WSJ, explaining to Time magazine that it is nothing more than mere rumors.

"As of now, I have nothing new to share with you in regard to the use of our IPs for any TV shows or films, but I can at least confirm that the article in question is not based on correct information," Saturo Iwata said.

Despite the very explicit statement of Iwata, followers of the cult videogame franchise cannot be deterred at least when it comes to their excitement. While the television program rumors were already stumped, it seems like creators of the game are open to exploring the possibilities of their series.

Recently, Shigeru Miyamoto, creator of 'Legend of Zelda' and Takashi Tezuka, a game designer, sat down with MTV to discuss the popular game. During the interview, Miyamoto revealed that they do not have projects outside of games planned for the franchise. Nevertheless, they said they are willing to explore what could be made of 'Legend of Zelda.'

"As Nintendo is an entertainment company we think about ways of expanding outside of video games and not being limited," he said. "So we do not have anything in the immediate works but we are definitely interested and open to it."

Tezuka further chimed in that should a series or a movie was to be made, it would be interesting to see the main character Link, in a different light. He said, "This is just personally, it would very fun and awesome if Link was played by a female actress, a boyish female actress."
