After the massive success of The Lego Movie, a sequel is now in the works and more female characters will be seen.

The main men behind The Lego Movie, writer Chris Miller and director Phil Lord, revealed in a recent interview that fans will see a stronger female presence in the sequel. The second film, which is set to be released in 2018, is currently in production.

Miller and Lord wanted to send out a message of gender diversity and to appeal to a larger and wider audience. The first Lego Movie noticeably had most male characters, which was led and voiced by "Guardians of The Galaxy" actor, Chris Pratt.

"It's important to us that the movie plays broadly, and that we inspire young women as much as we inspire young men," said Lord in an interview with BBC

Lord continued to share his thoughts about the sensitivity to the fact that those who patronize Hollywood films are female viewers.

"You can feel that the whole movie culture is now starting to wake up to the fact that half the audience are women," added Lord in the same BBC post. Lord then made a reference to Disney's massive hit, Frozen, whose female characters became huge hits all over the world.

"Frozen is reflective of that - and I think we are all going to find a great flourishing of women film makers and subject matter in the future," further explained Lord.

Though sharing the next idea of having diverse cast of characters for the Lego Movie sequel, Lord and Miller kept mum about other details surrounding the film. Lord briefly stated that aside from female characters, there will be "more female stuff." This could mean more feminine-inspired buildings and even story arcs in the next flick.

The first Lego movie had a strong female character, Wyldstyle, who was voiced by Elizabeth Banks. Wyldstyle became the love interest of the main character, Emmett Brickowski (Chris Pratt).
