Since the boom of the technology age, hackers have always been a threat to the online communities of all industries, and the gaming community received a serious threat with the formation of the Lizard Squad.

At the beginning of December, Lizard Squad made a threat that they will shut down Xbox and PlayStation's online networks over the Christmas season "just for the lulz," or in online speak meaning "just for fun."

These online networks are needed by video games to properly run from the gamer's home consoles, and the attack by Lizard Squad meant that all gamers that use PlayStation or Xbox won't be able to play. Lizard Squad has quite the history of malicious online attacks, and a group called "Finest Squad" was formed to counter-attack Lizard Squad's efforts and to put them under authority's hands.

On August 24, Lizard Squad admitted to bringing down and shutting off PlayStation's network, and took responsibility on several attacks on Blizzard, the gaming company that brought the popular game, World of Warcraft. The same group also interfered with the flight of a Sony executive, John Smedley by sending a bomb threat through their Twitter account. When the flight was grounded, the group shared a message on social media that they compare themselves to dangerous terrorists, ISIS.

Lizard Squad attacked again in September in which they took down online versions of Call of Duty, FIFA, The Sims 4 and Madden.

However, Finest Squad went to work under the objective to put down Lizard Squad and managed to get into the Twitter accounts of its members. Finest Squad released the information online that led to the arrests of Lizard Group members. Finest Squad did not reveal how they were able to crack the high security level passwords that were created by Lizard group, though a report suggests that it was most likely from their Skype, Twitter, or web hosting accounts.
