Apart from the new iPhone and Apple Watch, gadget watchers were looking forward to Apple's unveiling of its upgraded laptops, including the MacBook Air, at the recent Sept. 7 event. However, there was no sign of the tech giant's thinnest laptop.

MacBook Air 2016's absence in the roster of new devices Apple unveiled reignited previous rumors that the tech giant may no longer continue the Air version of its laptops. Apparently, the tech company is more focused on the MacBook Pro and may even create a lighter and thinner version of it, which could replace the Air. However, there are still speculations that MacBook Air is still going to be a part of the Mac family.

According to reports, there was an email sent by an anonymous customer to Apple CEO Tim Cook and it contained an inquiry on the company's computer line. Although the authenticity of the email has not been confirmed, apparently, Cook responded that the company is "very committed" to Mac.

Because of the MacBook Air's absence at the last Sept. 7 event, the reports also speculate that the Cupertino-based company may launch the upgraded laptop in October.

The rumored specs of the MacBook Air 206 include significant hardware changes. The MacBook Air 2016 will be featuring the USB Type-C, which is the rapidly growing trend in computers and handheld devices these days.

Also, the lightweight laptop may finally feature Siri and Touch ID fingerprint recognition like that of the tablets and smartphones. It is expected to run on an Intel Skylake processor and will be powered by new batteries. It will also finally be sporting a Retina screen display.

As for its price, the MacBook Air 13-inch model will most likely be available for $980 and $1,100 for the 15-inch variant.

If there is still no October announcement from Apple, it could be launched in the first quarter of 2017.
