'Man of Steel 2' spoilers, rumors: Brainiac will be the big bad; Supergirl and Martian Manhunter part of the movie

(Facebook/Man of Steel)Rumor has it that Brainiac will be the big bad in "Man of Steel 2."

While DC and Warner Bros. have yet to confirm that a second "Man of Steel" movie is in the pipeline, rumor has it that the sequel will feature Brainiac as the big bad who will challenge the Kryptonian might and power of Henry Cavill's Superman.

Movie Web opines that featuring Brainiac as the main antagonist in "Man of Steel 2" is sensible as, after all, he is one of the most powerful antagonists in the comic book incarnations of the superhero. It has also been learned that the said villain was also considered to be featured in the supposed "Superman" movie of Nicholas Cage, "Superman Lives," but the plan for the movie was scrapped and never saw light at all.

It is alleged that Brainiac and Superman will have a showdown of force twice in "Man of Steel 2." First, it is said that the two will fight each other in space, and it is there where Superman's cousin, Supergirl, will show up.

Rumor has it that "Man of Steel 2" will also feature Martian Manhunter, who will be responsible for the descent of Brainiac on Earth as he chases him around the galaxy. On Earth, Superman and Braniac will fight once more, and other members of the Justice League will show up to assist the Man of Steel in bringing down the villain.

Apart from the rumored plot of "Man of Steel 2," there are also rumors saying that Warner Bros. is in the process of wooing J.J. Abrams to direct the said movie as, allegedly, the studio wants a big and respected name to helm the film, much more that Abrams is reputed for having the magic of bringing back a franchise back on track.

As of this writing, there is still no certainty as to when "Man of Steel 2" will arrive in theaters. However, according to earlier reports, it is likely to arrive either in 2018 or 2019 as Warner Bros. has secured two showing dates for two unnamed movies: one for Oct. 5, 2018 and another for Nov. 1, 2019.
