'Marco Polo' season 3 air date, news, plot rumors: Kublai Khan no longer a main character?

(Facebook/Marco Polo)Will Kublai Khan's place as a main character be replaced by Empress Chabi in 'Marco Polo' season 3?

Following the cliffhanger in "Marco Polo" season 2 and the huge success of "Doctor Strange" which Benedict Wong was a part of, fans are starting to wonder if the actor will still have time to become a core character in the hit historical series.

Wong's Kublai Khan is, of course, one of the major characters that "Marco Polo" is based on and his presence in the series has to be felt so the story can move forward. However, recent reports suggest that he may no longer be a series regular in "Marco Polo" season 3, which means that his appearances may be reduced.

Because of this, Joan Chen's Empress Chabi might be chosen to take over the lead role alongside Lorenzo Richelmy's Marco Polo. Empress Chabi has proven to be one of the most important people in Kublai Khan's life and she has shown great influence. Will she have what it takes to be the next character placed in the spotlight?

Reports about Khan's potential airtime reduction stemmed from the alleged scheduling issues that Wong has had ever since he received a good number of projects for this year and 2017. His amazing performance in "Doctor Strange," the movie that has proven to be a breakthrough in Marvel's first attempt to show off the dark side of its world, has further led some to believe that he will receive additional projects in the next couple of years. However, there is no confirmation about the reports yet.

Meanwhile, show creator John Fusco has been posting several bits of information about "Marco Polo" over the past days on Twitter. Is he hinting a potential announcement of "Marco Polo" season 3 soon? Since he is not giving any details away, fans can only hope that Netflix will give the series another shot, especially since there are still stories to be told and questions that need to be answered.
