'Marco Polo' season 3 news, updates, rumors: Kublai Khan to die soon?

(Facebook/Marco Polo)"Marco Polo" season 3 will reportedly see the death of Kublai Khan

Netflix has not yet announced a third season for "Marco Polo" but fans are still hoping to get more from the historical drama, especially as now that there are reports suggesting Kublai Khan will die soon.

Benedict Wong's Kublai Khan is a centric character in the series and without him, it seems that the story will not move forward. However, the great Mongol leader's death could also mean wider doors for the other characters' stories to be told.

Rumor has it that the Mongol leader's life is nearing its end as his list of enemies continues to grow, which includes the mysterious Prester John, who is believed to be the mastermind behind the attack on the Mongol camp in the finale of season two.

In historical accounts, Kublai Khan is said to have died due to an illness in his old age. He passed away at the age of 78. It is unclear if the series will follow through with what is told in history but it would be interesting to see how Khan's life will be ended if ever he does have to die in "Marco Polo" season three.

Probably one of the reasons why Wong's character will allegedly be killed off in the upcoming installment is due to the actor's hectic schedule this year. He has other projects lined up until 2017 and these are reportedly delaying production for the new episodes. However, there is no confirmation on the reports yet.

Meanwhile, the show's official Twitter page recently posted a photo of Uli Latukefu's Byamba, causing some fans to believe that he may have a longer screen time when the show returns.

Byamba is known for being the illegitimate son of the great Khan, but despite his roots, he is very well-respected by his father. In fact, Khan has put him in a good position in the royal courts, where he formed a good bond with Lorenzo Richelmy's Marco.

Since it is unknown if "Marco Polo" season three will ever happen, it is also unclear what the show was trying to say when it tweeted an image of Byamba fighting. Could this mean that Byamba will have more adventures where he can further shine in the face of a realm that sees him as an illegitimate child?

Stay tuned for more updates on "Marco Polo" season three.
