'Marco Polo' season 3 renewal rumors: Benedict Wong too busy to film?

(Facebook/MarcoPoloMP)Netflix has yet to renew "Marco Polo" for a third season.

"Marco Polo" fans are getting antsy. Netflix has yet to officially renew the series for a third season, which is causing rumors to emerge that the show may have been canceled altogether. However, reports now claim that the series is only on hiatus, mainly due to one of the stars' busy schedule.

According to these reports, Benedict Wong, who plays Kublai Khan on the Netflix show, has got his hands tied with other projects. Wong is scheduled to appear in Marvel's "Doctor Strange" alongside Benedict Cumberbatch and Tilda Swinton. It has been said that the actor's other commitments have resulted in production for "Marco Polo" season 3 getting delayed.

Because of Wong's busy work schedule, rumors have begun to spread online that his character gets lesser screen time instead. This is to accommodate the actor's other projects. If this is true, then fans can expect the spotlight on other characters on the show. There may even be a possibility of signing on some new faces.

Regardless, plot rumors have surrounded the third season of the series. There are talks of Kublai Khan in a difficult position, possibly meeting his end. There are other speculations involving Wong's character in a romantic issue of sorts. These plot rumors continue to spread online despite Netflix's silence on the future of the series.

But it may not be entirely up to Netflix after all. Reports have also suggested that the third season of "Marco Polo" may air somewhere else. Another network may be interested in picking up the series if Netflix decides to pull the plug on it.

However, all of these rumors have not been confirmed, so it's best that fans take this news with a grain of salt. Right now, all fans can do is remain hopeful. After all, the first two seasons did get positive reviews, which is a good sign of an eventual renewal.
