Marvel's 'Daredevil' season 2 news: release date due 2016; plot may see Kingpin introduce Elektra

(Netflix)

"Daredevil" was received with much critical acclaim and high viewer ratings when season one released on Netflix. Needless to say, many media outlets and comic-book fans had predicted a season two to further the story of Hell's Kitchen's favorite vigilante.

Marvel recently announced that it has renewed the blind lawyer's story for a second season that will be released on Netflix in 2016. However, there will be some behind-the-scene changes to the TV show. Showrunners Steven S. DeKnight and Drew Goddard will step down from their duties and give the mantle over to Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez. Petrie and Ramirez both worked closely with the original showrunners throughout season one so they are more than qualified to take over the new role.

DeKnight spoke about the transition saying, "While previous commitments unfortunately prevent me from continuing on with Daredevil into its second season, I could not be happier that Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez are carrying the torch. They were invaluable collaborators during our first season, and I for one can't wait to see what they do with the show moving forward."

What could be the possible plot for season two? While there are several possibilities, given the plethora of comic books tied to Daredevil, The Gospel Herald speculates that it could be Bullseye and Elektra. In the books, Kingpin hires Bullseye and kills Elektra. While Kingpin was in jail when viewers last saw him in season one, it may not mean his story is over. Moreover, Murdock mentions he dates a Greek girl in college in season one. Additionally, showrunners may decide to use the Born Again plot where Daredevil meets his mother who is a nun in a church. This plot also follows Kingpin learning about the superhero's true identity and going after him.

"Daredevil" essays the story of a blind lawyer by day and vigilante of Hell's Kitchen by night. Marvel's Jesse Jones will release on Netflix later this year. Other TV series by the studio scheduled for release are Luke Cage, Iron Fist and lastly Defenders where Daredevil will unite with Cage and Fist.
