"Masters of Sex" season 4 has everyone excited. After a rather shocking season 3 finale, the upcoming installment will set off with Bill having "a new outlook on things."

Star Michael Sheen said at a panel during the Television Critics Association Press Tour that his character will come back from an experience that "starts to loosen certain things up in him." Sheen added that even though it's troubling, there's something about being accused of prostitution and pedophilia that makes his character feel somewhat free.

The new season will be set in the late '60s to '70s, which means that a more liberal America will be featured. "Now we're in the swinging '60s, and everybody is f–king everybody," Lizzy Caplan, who plays Virginia Johnson, said. "All of a sudden, the world is reflecting a lot of the stuff these two people were doing behind closed doors."

Caplan also revealed that her character, Virginia, and Dan (Josh Charles) will not have a happily ever after. Even though they planned to wed each other, the plans will be canceled.

The synopses of the first three episodes of the season have already been released on Showtime's website.

The premiere episode is titled "Freefall." After ending on bad terms, Virginia and Bill will have to carve out a path without each other. Their personal lives will also suffer a great deal. On the other hand, Libby (Caitlin FitzGerald) is fresh out of her marriage and is alone once more. However, it won't take long before she finds people to connect with.

The second episode, titled "Inventory," will find Bill and Virginia attempting to move on through new partners. They will also be putting a lot of effort into their clinic. Meanwhile, Libby will re-examine her relationship with the two leads.

Finally, the third episode, titled "The Pleasure Protocol," will see Bill and Virginia rethinking their decision to separate. Things will also be looking up for Libby when a new love interest enters the picture.

A trailer for the fourth season has also been released, teasing "no more guilt" and "no more rules" coming ahead. "Masters of Sex" season 4 will premiere on Sept. 11 on Showtime.
