Meghan Trainor new album 2016 rumors: 'Thank You,' something different, and nails it

What Meghan Trainor knew was that she is no one-trick pony, and after her management team pushed her to do "something no one would expect Meghan Trainor to do," she proved she could do more than her punchy sixties throwback style. Her new single "NO" from the "Thank You" album is something different, and she totally nails it. The song premiered Friday, although the full album is not out yet. However, the latter is already on pre-order basis on iTunes.

Trainor shares how she got there, in an interview with Time, "It was definitely a war with my label and my management because I was handing in songs, and I did the doo-wop."

And her management team, she shares, tells her, "'That's exactly what everybody's expecting, Meghan. Hit us with your songwriting skills, hit us with something no one would expect Meghan Trainor to do.'"

The singer-song writer expressed, "That pissed me off and fired me up, so I went into the studio and was like, 'Ugh! We need an angry song! More hip hop, more urban! Let's go!' We did that in one day and they loved it."

The Grammy-award-winner reveals to TIME that she wants to follow in the footsteps of fellow pop artist Bruno Mars who could do different genres, albeit he got called out for that. Trainor points out, "He's one of the only ones who can get away with it." And she wants to be the female version!

"NO" producer and the album executive producer Ricky Reed tells Popdust that Trainor's album "Thank You" got inspiration from a diverse genres of music — funk, gospel, Caribbean soca, and country. He describes what he thought of the first single "NO" from Trainor's album. He calls it a "bizarre song," and it came out "pretty incredible." He also lauds it as the "core," a "gateway drug," and finally, "a perfect introduction to her next musical journey." He claims that after hearing "NO," he can't wait to see what Trainor has in store.

"Thank You" is Trainor's sophomore album.
