'Might & Magic: Showdown' release date, news: Title now available on Steam Early Access

(Ubisoft official website)"Might & Magic: Showdown" allows the player to customize his characters and think of a tactical strategy before the actual battle.

There are many simple games in early childhood that one hopes to bring to the modern world, imagining how it would pan out in today's technology. This wish is granted by Ubisoft Entertainment as the team brings "Might & Magic: Showdown" on the PC platforms.

The first reveal trailer shows exactly how kids before painted their miniature armies and imagined how they would fight, then bring them to life with a PC-based tabletop game. With the current advancement in gaming, one can now easily mobilize their creations against another player and see how they would wage war against each other.

"Might & Magic: Showdown" producer Philippe Ducharme further delves into the details of how the game realizes the magical world of the tactical player-vs.-player battles. "We wanted you to experience what it is like to have and own figurines and play with them within the game," Ducharme explains as he points out the inspiration of the title.

A player can get any figurine/character from the game's roster, and, just like buying it from the store, customize it the one sees fit. The game allows the player to use intricate brush strokes while applying different colors on the figurine, making it truly personal.

Painting the figurines is half the fun for "Might & Magic: Showdown," reliving what it was like to design one's own hero. For those who do not wish to invest too much time in designing, there are default paint jobs for each character.

The title's gameplay is like no other as it divides the pieces into two — the hero and the creatures. The hero can be readily controlled during the actual combat, allowing the player to target any enemy piece at any given time. The creatures, however, have preset targets and actions that could be modified through the tactical editor before the actual battle.

"Might & Magic: Showdown" is now available via Steam Early Access and is free until Feb. 19.
