For months, since the release of the first "Mortal Kombat X" DLC, "Kombat Pack," fans of the long-running title have been waiting patiently for the announcement of the next downloadable content release.

NetherRealm and Warner Bros. have previously been mum on whether or not they are indeed working on a new DLC, however, merely days ago, it was finally confirmed that new content would be coming to "Mortal Kombat X."

Last Sept. 2 2016, it was announced via the official "Mortal Kombat" community page on WBGames.com that the "Mortal Kombat" team is in the thick of developing a DLC. The post further revealed that fans should expect the DLC to be available early next year.

"Today Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment confirmed that NetherRealm Studios is developing new downloadable content (DLC) for 'Mortal Kombat X,' the best-selling game of 2015 to-date according to US NPD. The new content will include four new playable characters, skins and a new environment, all of which will be available in the first half of 2016," read the update.

Ed Boon, director of "Mortal Kombat X," has since released a teaser image of the four new characters that would be introduced in the upcoming offering. In a tweet sent out five days ago, Boon gave fans of the game a chance to speculate on who the latest inclusions would be. He wrote, "Here is the official announcement of new downloadable content coming for Mortal Kombat X."

Unsurprisingly, followers of the franchise have chimed in on who they think the four new characters would be. On TRMK.com, a "Mortal Kombat" forum website established almost two decades ago, several fans gave their two cents on the silhouettes.

According to MKXGoon101, who has been a member of the forum page since March of this year, the new characters might be Baraka Fujin and Bo Rai Cho.

On the other hand, Elias6999 from Lebanon, thinks that the shadows are merely placeholders. The user said, "It looks like a placeholder image (no female). But still, YAAAAASSS."

NetherRealm has yet to announce when the DLC would be made available.
