'Mr. Robot' season 2 spoilers: Darlene and Angela's plans hit a snag; can Mr. Robot save Elliot from Ray in episode 6?

(Facebook/WhoIsMrRobot)Mr. Robot tries to prove to Elliot that he's still useful.

Elliot's misplaced trust in his newfound friend Ray has put him in grave danger. Will Mr. Robot prove his usefulness by getting him out of it?

The previous episode focused more on the characters than the big hack and was all the better for it. Despite all the precautions he put in place to keep himself from reverting back to his old ways, Elliot (Rami Malek) still ended up hacking the FBI and discovering just what kind of secrets Ray (Craig Robinson) had been keeping. Unfortunately for him, his friendly neighbor soon showed his true colors and had some people beat him up. Meanwhile, Darlene (Carly Chaikin) helps keep Angela (Portia Doubleday) safe from the FBI in exchange for her aid and Whiterose (B.D Wong) is revealed to be Minister Zhang, China's Minister of State Security.

Episode 6 will find Elliot still in danger as Mr. Robot (Christian Slater) tries to prove that he can still be useful. Meanwhile, Darlene and Angela's plan hits a snag. A trailer for the upcoming episode, titled "eps2.4_m4ster-s1ave.aes," shows that Ray is more sinister than he looks. The clip starts with Elliot waking up in the hospital, with Ray sitting beside him and telling him that they have work to do. Meanwhile, Angela tries to learn how to hack despite being told she couldn't do it. She's later seen infiltrating a particular floor in her office and plugging in some equipment. The clip ends with Elliot in bed, bruised after another beating, but awake.

Fans have been shocked at this total 360 change in Ray, a decent guy who allows horrible things to happen by turning a blind eye as long as he's getting paid. As for Elliot, "Mr. Robot" creator Sam Esmail hinted that his current predicament stems from the fact that he locked away the good side of himself.

"He locked it away with the bad side effects of that, which is in essence what 'Mr. Robot' embodies," Esmail explained to EW.

The writer added that Elliot's decision had "essentially zombified" him, but it was the only way he thinks he can control "Mr. Robot." But perhaps this side of himself will be the one to find a solution to his current predicament.

"Mr. Robot" season 2 episode 6 is set to be aired on the USA network on Aug. 10 at 10 p.m.
