'Narcos' season 3 cast news, plot rumors: Miguel Angel Silvestre lands role as money launderer
The upcoming season of "Narcos" will introduce new characters to the mix. It has been revealed that Miguel Angel Silvestre, who is known for his roles in "Sense8" and "Velvet," will be joining the cast for season 3.
Silvestre joins Andrea Londo, Nicholas Gonzalez, Michael Stahl-David, Matt Whelan, Arturo Castro, and Kerry Bishé — all of whom have already been confirmed for parts in the series. According to E! Online, Silvestre will play "the person in charge of laundering money for the cartel," although his name and the aforementioned cartel were not given. It is assumed, though, that he will be working for the Cali Cartel, since the previous season saw the downfall and ultimate demise of Pablo Escobar, played by Wagner Moura. Without Escobar, the Medellin Cartel ceases to exist.
Silvestre also took to his Instagram account to share his whereabouts. The actor took a video of himself on the set of "Narcos" season 3, which is filming in Bogota, Colombia.
The upcoming season is expected to put the spotlight on Javier Pena, played by Pedro Pascal. It has been said that Pena will become the show's new narrator, replacing Steve Murphy, portrayed by Boyd Holbrook.
It remains to be seen whether Holbrook will return for the new season since his participation in the series has not been confirmed. The actor, himself, has yet to address the issue as well. DEA Agent Steve Murphy was assigned to the Escobar case in Colombia, but, with Escobar gone, it looks like Murphy's duties have come to a close.
The season 2 finale initially hinted that Pena would be fired from his job because of his relations with the Cali Cartel. However, it took a dramatic turn and revealed that Pena's knowledge of the cartel will help the United States government take them down.
"Narcos" season 3 does not have a premiere date yet, although it is expected to arrive sometime in 2017.
