'Nashville' season 5 news: CMT eyes the show's renewal

(Nashville /Facebook)"Nashville" season 5 might get picked up by CMT.

Fans of the American musical drama "Nashville" were heartbroken when they learned that the series was canceled by its home network, ABC, after wrapping up its fourth season. However, new reports say that the show is eyeing a season 5 renewal on another network — CMT.

According to reports, the moment ABC announced that the series will no longer return to the network with another season, "Nashville" producer Lionsgate TV was quick to pitch the series to other networks and even streaming platforms. The season 5 renewal to other networks is still at the negotiations phase and it is still unsure if it will be carried out. However, there are rumors that CMT network will most likely pick up the show.

There are also talks that "Nashville" will continue on two platforms — traditional network (CMT) and the streaming service Hulu. The reason why Hulu will most likely house the upcoming season of "Nashville" is because it had already made the show's previous seasons available for streaming.

Lionsgate TV is also pretty confident for the show to be picked up by another network, which is why the producers chose to air the cliffhanger ending for season 4 and not the alternative conclusive ending they also made. Even at the recent earnings call for Lionsgate, they have revealed that they are planning to get another season of "Nashville" and also hope that they would still talk about producing it for the years to come.

Variety has also revealed that the production studio has already mapped out season 5. The writers room headed by showrunners Marshall Herskovitz and Ed Swick had already been funded as well. Even the actors' contracts are still effective for a few more seasons.

"Nashville" has a very big and strong fanbase that they even made a petition to stop the cancellation of their favorite show. It got nearly 200,000 signatures, but ABC hasn't responded to it yet.
