There is no denying how devastated and shocked fans were when it was announced that NBC's "Hannibal" would no longer see a fourth season. It is arguably one of the most controversial television programs to date and to see it cancelled broke many fans' hearts.

However, it seems like there is a new glimmer of hope for "fannibals," as recently, the creators of the show have hinted that there is a possibility that the series would be back albeit in another medium.

"Hannibal," which first debuted two years ago in 2013, is a psychological thriller TV show based on the characters of the Thomas Harris hit, "Red Dragon." It follows the story of Will Graham as he investigates the disappearance of eight young girls in Minnesota. The pressure and emotional turmoil of the investigation took a toll on Graham, ultimately seeking the help of the titular psychiatrist, Dr. Hannibal Lecter.

The recently concluded San Diego Comic-Con was the venue for "Hannibal's" last panel. And there, Bryan Fuller, the creator of the series, explained why the show cannot be resurrected on either Amazon Prime or Netflix.

"Netflix couldn't do it because of the Amazon streaming. Amazon would liked to have done it but they wanted to do it very quickly and I wanted to be able to get all the scripts in advance before we starting shooting...the schedule with their desire to put it on immediately was just impossible for us."

He further hinted that while it is unfortunate that the show would no longer be shown on the small screen, there is a possibility that a film adaptation of "Hannibal" could soon be in the works.

"We are still looking. We don't have a lot of answers and we're looking at the possibility of a feature."

There are, however, several more upcoming episodes which fans can enjoy, with one airing in a couple of days on Aug. 1, 2015.
