Nintendo 3DS games now playable on iPhone without having to jailbreak

A new Nintendo DS emulator has been released for Apple's operating system. And now, iOS users can have all the Pokémon and Super Mario they can get, straight to the iPhone and iPad.

DS emulators for the iPhone and iPad are a dime a dozen—only if you jailbreak your device. But everybody knows jailbreaking is not only illegal, but it also poses a lot of dangers to the device from bricking and voiding warranties to blocked future updates and exposure to various viruses.

This is why when an iOS user wants to play all their Nintendo 3DS games, they will have to actually purchase the handheld device. However, that is now a thing of the past as TouchArcade reports that iEmulators just released an NDS emulator that does not require any jailbreaking.

iEmulators' nds4ios is currently available on their website. Simply click on the Apps tab and look for "nds4ios" and install on your chosen iOS device. It is enterprise-signed and its certificate is still currently being accepted by Apple.

TouchArcade, however, warns that ROMs cannot be directly added from the emulator. The site suggests backing ROM collections to an online server like Dropbox and utilizing the "Open in..." function of iOS. He also warns that there might still be some risk involved as enterprise certificate for the new emulator is from a Chinese developer. In a nutshell, download at your own risk.

There are current fears that Nintendo might stop developing software for their handheld device, 3DS (and even for their current console Wii U) as the Japan-based company is now turning their focus on creating their new-generation home console, branded Nintendo NX. Even with confirmation from Nintendo president Satoru Iwata that game development is still ongoing for the handheld device, some are already looking for means to keep their DS games alive in preparation for its sunset.
