Nintendo Switch news: Chargeable Joy-Con grip sold separately for $29.99

Gamers are growing more excited by the day, as the Nintendo Switch launch date draws even closer. The handheld and home console only costs $29.99. This, however, only comes with a regular Joy-Con controller. The chargeable one is sold separately.

According to Eurogamer, for the listed price of the Nintendo Switch, players will get a regular Joy-Con grip along with the console. The premium version, however, must be purchased for $29.99.

At last Friday's livestream event, it seems like Nintendo failed to clarify this particular detail of its upcoming console. This relatively small aspect was only revealed to fans when shop listings clarified the inclusion of the aforementioned price.

Both controllers look very similar in design, but the charging grip of the premium controller comes in a translucent black color as opposed to the matte finish of the standard grip. Unlike the standard Joy-Con grip, the premium version will come with a USB Type-C connector to power the device and charge the controller while playing. Without the charging grip, players can only recharge the batteries of the Joy-Con by sliding it onto the Switch; hence, gamers have no other choice but to use the tablet mode while recharging.

The Nintendo Joy-Con controller battery is a non-removable 525 mAh lithium-ion unit. It boasts 20 hours of battery life, which can be charged within 3.5 hours. The life span of the battery, however, will shorten in time because of the battery cell's deterioration.

The Nintendo Switch will be available starting this March 3. But gamers can already pre-order the device today. As previously reported, the device will launch with the following titles, "1-2 Switch," "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild," "Just Dance 2017," "Skylanders: Imaginators," and "Super Bomberman R." Shortly after, Nintendo exclusive and third-party titles will be made available on the console.
